Central Scotland (Scottish Parliament electoral region)

Central Scotland is one of the eight Scottish electoral regions of the Scottish Parliament election. It was created on the basis of the Scotland Act of 1998. The region includes the towns of Airdrie, Bellshill, Coatbridge, East Kilbride, Falkirk, Hamilton, Larkhall, Motherwell and Wishaw. The first elections were held on 6 May 1999 as part of the general election.

At the Central Scotland region borders clockwise starting in the north and the Regions: Mid Scotland and Fife, Lothian, South Scotland, West Scotland and Glasgow.

Geographical breakdown

1999-2011

From 1999 until the revision of constituencies in 2011 were in the region of Central Scotland ten constituencies together. They corresponded regarding naming and cut the constituencies to the British Parliament. Each constituencies represented a certain according to the majority vote of Representatives. In addition, seven Additional Members were elected.

Geographically included the election Region Central Scotland Regions Falkirk and North Lanarkshire and parts of South Lanarkshire (other parts to choose from Glasgow Area ), East Ayrshire (other parts to South of Scotland) and East Dunbartonshire ( West to other parts of Scotland).

2011 -

As part of the revision before the parliamentary elections in 2011 a restructuring of constituencies and electoral regions took place. These parts were the South of Scotland region slammed the southwest of the Central Scotland region and re-cut several constituencies and renamed. Former Central Scotland to related parts of East Ayrshire Council Area other choice regions were slammed. According to the new classification, the region includes only nine constituencies.

General Election 1999

The turnout was 59.40 %.

General Election 2003

The turnout was 48.53 %.

2007 General Election

The turnout was 50.49 %. With this result, the Central Scotland region showed the Glasgow area on the second lowest voter turnout.

2011 general election

The turnout was 48.0 %. With this result, the Central Scotland region showed the Glasgow area on the second lowest voter turnout.
