Tom McCabe

Tom McCabe ( born April 28, 1954 in Hamilton) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labour Party.

McCabe attended the St Martin's Secondary School in Hamilton and then the co-located in Hamilton Bell College of Technology, where he graduated with a degree in Public Sector Management.

Political career

Prior to his election to the Scottish Parliament McCabe was councilor of Larkhall and sat in front of the Council of South Lanarkshire. In the Scottish Parliament elections in 1999 McMahon stood as Labour candidate for the constituency of South Hamilton. Well ahead of the candidate of the SNP, he won the mandate and moved into the newly created Scottish Parliament. In the following elections in 2003 and 2007, he defended his position. As part of the constituency reform of 2011, the constituency Hamilton South was dissolved. For this reason, McCabe stepped up to the 2011 parliamentary elections for the newly created constituency of Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse, have been merged into the large parts of the former constituency of. However, McMahon defeated Christina McKelvie of the SNP and is no longer a Member of Parliament since 2011.

From May 1999 to November 2001 McCabe Minister for Parliament and parliamentary manager of his party. In May 2003 he was appointed Minister of Health in October 2004 and moved to the position of finance minister, which he held until the end of the legislature in 2007.
