South Scotland (Scottish Parliament electoral region)

South Scotland is one of the eight Scottish electoral regions of the Scottish Parliament election. It was created on the basis of the Scotland Act of 1998 under the name South of Scotland. As part of the revision of the electoral regions in 2011 renaming took place in South Scotland and the region were added to small areas including the Midlothian Council Area. On the other hand went to the fields of North Ayrshire Council Area to the West Scotland electoral region. South Scotland comprises the south of Scotland with the towns of Ayr, Cumnock, Dumfries, Galashiels, Hawick, Kilmarnock, Prestwick and Troon. As South of Scotland were the cities Irvine and Stevenston in this constituency. The first elections were held on 6 May 1999 as part of the general election.

On the region bordering South Scotland from west to east regions: West Scotland, Central Scotland and Lothian.

Geographical breakdown

Under the South Scotland region nine constituencies of the Council Areas East Ayrshire, East Lothian, Dumfries and Galloway, Midlothian, Scottish Borders, South Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire are summarized. Areas formerly contained the Council Area North Ayrshire was slammed by the revision of constituencies the election Region West of Scotland. The constituencies corresponded regarding naming and cut the constituencies to the British Parliament. Each represents a specific constituencies by majority vote of Representatives. In addition, seven Additional Members are elected.
