Donald Gorrie

Donald Cameron Easterbrook Gorrie, OBE, DL (* April 2, 1933; † 25 August 2012) was a Scottish politician and member of the Liberal Democrats.

House of Commons

Gorrie first came on to the general election in 1970 for the Liberal Democrats in the constituency of Edinburgh West. Since he received only 8.2 % of the vote, it was the way into the lower house denied. In the two elections in February and October 1974 Gorrie was 21.5 % and 16.4% is indeed seen significant gains voice, still not won the direct mandate of the constituency. Another time ran Gorrie at the general election in 1992 for Edinburgh West and was subject only just the candidate of the Conservative Party, James Douglas - Hamilton. The 1997 General Election finally brought a change and Gorrie won the mandate with a clear lead before Douglas-Hamilton and moved for the first time in the House of Commons.

Scottish Parliament

In the first elections to the Scottish Parliament candidate Gorrie on the regional list of polling Region Central Scotland and moved due to the election results in the newly created Scottish Parliament. For the constituency of Edinburgh West, which he represented in the British House of Commons, Margaret Smith ran and won it for the Liberal Democrats. In the parliamentary elections of 2003, Gorrie applied for a second term for the region Central Scotland and defended his seat to the 2007 parliamentary elections, he no longer went to.
