Margaret of Burgundy, Queen of Sicily

Margaret of Burgundy (* 1250, † September 4, 1308 ) was Countess of Tonnerre 1262 to 1309, and by marriage Queen of Sicily ( 1268-1282 ) and Naples ( 1282-1285 ).

She was one of four daughters of Odo of Burgundy (* 1230, † 1269 ) and Matilda II of Bourbon, Countess of Nevers, Auxerre and Tonnerre.

1268 she married as his second wife Charles of Anjou (* 1226, † 1285), King of Sicily, in 1282 King of Naples, titular King of Jerusalem, Count of Anjou, Maine, Provence and Forcalquier.

1273 she became the county Tonnere from the estate of her deceased mother in 1262 after a long legal dispute.

After her husband had died in 1285, she retired, accompanied by two relatives, Margaret of Brienne ( widow of Count Bohemond IV of Tripoli) and Catherine de Courtenay, on their French possessions in Tonnerre back. There they founded the Hospice de Fontilles, the later Hôtel -Dieu de Tonnerre, and equipped it with sufficient income.

Since she had no children, she bequeathed Tonnerre her great-nephew John II of Chalon (* 1292, † 1362 House Chalon ). She was buried in the Hospice of Fontilles.
