Margaret of France, Duchess of Brabant

Margaret of France (French Marguerite de France, * 1254 or 1255; † July 1271 ) was a French princess from the Capetian dynasty and by marriage to John I. Duchess of Brabant.

She came second youngest daughter of the French king Louis IX. and his wife Margaret of Provence after their return from the crusade to Egypt (sixth crusade ) at the turn of 1254 to 1255 in France to the world. Her older brother was the future King Philip the Bold.

Margaret was in 1257 engaged with the future Duke Henry IV of Brabant. The marriage was never realized, apparently because the groom was mentally handicapped. Henry IV thanked 1267 in favor of his younger brother, Duke John I, from and entered a monastery. The marriage vow was now transferred to the new Duke, the Margaret married in 1270. However, they died in 1271 in childbirth with her newborn. She was buried in the abbey of Saint- Denis.
