Margaret of Savoy, Vicereine of Portugal

Princess Margaret of Savoy (* April 28, 1589 in Turin, † June 26, 1655 in Miranda de Ebro ) was by marriage Duchess of Mantua and Monferrato and 1635, she was appointed as the last Spanish viceroy of Portugal.

Life

Margaret was the eldest daughter of nine children of Duke Charles Emmanuel I of Savoy (1562-1630) and his wife the Infanta Catherine Michaela of Spain (1567-1597), the second daughter of the Spanish King Philip II and the French princess Elisabeth of Valois. Her grandparents were the Duke Emmanuel Philibert and his wife Marguerite de Valois - Angoulême, duchesse de Berry.

On February 19, 1608 married Princess Margaret in Turin the Italian Duke Francesco IV Gonzaga ( 1586-1612 ), eldest son of Duke Vincenzo I Gonzaga and Princess Eleonora de ' Medici. From the joint compound has three children were born:
