Simões Barroso Soares Maria de Jesus ( born 2 May 1925 in Fuzeta, Olhão ) is a Portuguese actress and politician. As the wife of Mário Soares she was from March 1986 to March 1996 Primeira -dama from Portugal.

Maria Barroso was born the daughter of Alfredo José Barroso and Maria da Encarnação Simões to the world. She is aunt of the chronicler and former Secretary of State Alfredo Barroso and the surgeon Eduardo Barroso.
