María Julia Mantilla

Maria Julia " Maju " Mantilla Garcia (born 10 July 1984 Trujillo, Peru) is a Peruvian model. She won the 2004 title of Miss World.

Biography

Mantilla García was elected on 4 December 2004 at the Crown of Beauty Theatre in Sanya ( China) Miss World. She followed the daughter of singer Chris de Burgh, Rosanna Davison, after and was only the second winner of this title from Peru. During her reign, Mantilla Maria Julia Garcia committed to many charitable organizations and traveled in their names around the world.

As Vice - Miss- Peru - 2004 behind the national champion Liesel Holler, she qualified for the finals in China, which finally took place in Hainan. In the 54th edition of the Miss World contest to Mantilla Garcia won against participants from 107 countries.

Before the victory, she worked as a model and in a Peruvian TV show. She studied to be a teacher and is planning a career in the tourism industry.

On December 10, 2005, she crowned her successor, Miss Iceland, Unnur Birna Vilhjálmsdóttir Miss World.

In October 2010, Mantilla Garcia took part in the 60th Miss World beauty pageant in Sanya China as a juror. There they chose, among others, together with the former title winners Denise Perrier ( Miss World 1953), Ann Sidney ( Miss World 1964), Mary Stävin ( Miss World 1977), Agbani Darego ( Miss World 2001), Zhang Zilin ( Miss World 2007) and Xenia Sukhinova ( Miss World 2008), the 18 -year-old U.S. citizen Alexandria Mills the winner.
