Marie of Prussia, Margravine of Brandenburg-Bayreuth

Marie of Prussia ( * 1579 in Königsberg, † February 11, 1649 in Bayreuth) was a Prussian princess and by marriage Margravine of Brandenburg- Bayreuth.

Life

Marie was the second daughter of Duke Albrecht Friedrich of Prussia (1553-1618) from his marriage to Marie Eleonore (1550-1608), daughter of Duke William the Rich of Jülich- Cleves -Berg. The princess grew up with her sisters on the Königsberg Castle.

She married on 29 April 1604 Plassenburg the Margrave Christian of Brandenburg -Bayreuth ( 1581-1655 ). Since her father left no male heir was it because of the severance Maries for Prussia but also Jülich- Kleve -Berg disputes. Marie acquired in 1613 the manors Schreez and Culmbach in Haag ( Upper Franconia ). The income she used to lock to Unternschreez as her widow's residence expand. Through the Thirty Years' War, which was marked for Marie and her family in Franconia by escapes and hardships that goods fell but again.

Marie is buried in the parish church of Bayreuth for which they donated the high altar.
