Mark McGhee

Mark McGhee (2010)

Mark Edward McGhee ( born May 25, 1957 in Glasgow ) is a former Scottish footballer and current coach.

Career

Player

McGhee started his career at Greenock Morton. In 1977 he moved on to Newcastle United, he remained a year. From 1978 he played for the Scottish club Aberdeen FC. With Aberdeen he celebrated his greatest successes as a player. Under Sir Alex Ferguson, the European Cup Winners' Cup was won in 1983 after a playoff victory against Real Madrid. In the next season, McGhee played in the Bundesliga at Hamburger SV. Against Hamburg, he was still successful in the pre-season in the UEFA Super Cup. With Aberdeen he won the title and marked the return match the results to the final score of two to zero. After a year in Germany McGhee moved to his hometown to Celtic Glasgow. From 1989 to 1991 McGhee once again laced shoes for Newcastle United. In 1991 he also played in the second Swedish league at IK Brage. His last position was as a player of FC Reading. There he began his career as a coach.

Coach

McGhee had several stations as a coach in England and Scotland behind.

Since January 2013 he is assistant coach of the Scottish national football team under Gordon Strachan.
