Markland

About the trip the group to Thorfinn Karlsefni, coming from Helluland, according to the saga of Eirik RAUDA:

Then they sailed with northerly winds two half days, and then plunged the country before them, and on this a large forest and many wild animals. An island lay down in the southeast of the country. On this island they found bears, and so they called the island Bjarney (Bear Island ). But the main land on which was located the forest, they called with Markland ( Woodland ). Then, after two half days had passed (apparently they have been in this time again at sea), they saw land and sailed under it ( = sailed closer to the coast. ) There was a cape, to which it snaking their. They crossed along the country and left it on the starboard side.

It is not known for certain which area corresponds to this Markland, but it might be either the Labrador coast or around the island of Newfoundland.
