Markus Penz

Markus Penz ( born June 6, 1975 in Innsbruck) is an Austrian skeleton bob.

Markus Penz began in 1995 with the skeleton, and since 2002 he is a member of the Austrian national team. He is trained by Christian Steger, Manfred Maier and Francisco Aue. In January 2000, Penz debuted as 46th in Lillehammer in skeleton World Cup. In November 2000 he launched the newly designed skeleton and reached the European Cup in his first race already a second place in Igls and in the following race in Altenberg. A summary score, he finished as the first winner of the overall European Cups. A year later, he finished behind Andy Böhme second place.

In November 2003, Penz occupied in Calgary for the first time in tenth place among the top ten in a World Cup race. In 2004 he was behind Martin Rettl Austrian Vice Champion and sixth in the World Championships in Koenigssee. In December of that year, he finished third in Igls first podium in a World Cup race. The following year he was again Austrian Vice Champion and World Cup sixth in Calgary. 2006 Penz was first Austrian champion and finished third at the European Championships in St. Moritz. At the 2006 Olympics in Turin, he finished 16th place. Very successful was the season 2006/07. Penz was in Koenigssee behind Alexander Tretyakov Vice European champion and fourth in the World Championships in St. Moritz. In the World Cup he was also fourth.
