Martin Evans

Sir Martin John Evans ( born January 1, 1941 in Stroud ) is a British geneticist and winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2007. He was honored along with Mario Capecchi and Oliver Smithies for research on the knockout mouse. Evans is a pioneer of research into embryonic stem cells of mice, an essential tool for the generation of knockout mice.

Evans graduated in 1963 at Christ 's College, Cambridge University. 1969, he was awarded PhD at University College London. From 1969 to 1978 he worked at the Institute of Anatomy and Embryology, University College London and taught students. From 1978 he worked at the Department of Genetics at the University of Cambridge. Since 1999 he is Professor at Cardiff University.
