Martín Vásquez

Martin Vasquez ( born December 24, 1963 in Jalisco, Mexico, Spanish spelling: Martín Vásquez ) is a former American football player and current football coach.

Playing career

Association

Vasquez moved at the age of 12 years to Los Angeles, but he went back to Mexico to play for the now defunct club Leones Negros U de G. Then he played from 1980 to 1983 College Soccer at California State University in Los Angeles and then for five more years professional soccer and indoor football.

His debut in the Mexican League, he played for the club U de G ( Universidad de Guadalajara, not to be confused with UAG Tecos ) where he played from 1988 to 1990. 1990/91 ran Vasquez for Puebla FC and 1991/92 for CD Veracruz on. In 1992 he went to CF Atlas, which he remained faithful until his return to the United States in 1996.

In 1996 he moved to the also now-defunct Club Tampa Bay Mutiny and remained there until 1997, before he rounded off his career at San Jose Clash in 1998.

National

Between 1990 and 1992 contributed Vasquez three times the jersey of the Mexican national team, but only in unofficial friendlies, as the Mexicans were closed due to manipulation of birth data by FIFA at that time for all international games. Having obtained the U.S. citizenship, he was appointed by Steve Sampson for seven games in the national team of the United States. This was possible because his games for Mexico were unofficially. His first game for the U.S. team completed the midfielder on December 21, 1996 in a 2-2 draw against the national football team of Guatemala. A year later, on November 16, 1997, Vasquez was last nominated for the American selection.

Coaching career

After Vasquez had ended his active career, he worked as an assistant coach from 1999 to 2000 at Cal Poly Pomona and the now-defunct Women's Team San Diego Spirit ( 2001-2002). After one season as an assistant coach at Los Angeles Galaxy Vasquez worked from 2005 as assistant coach at Deportivo Chivas USA.

For the season 2008/ 09 he moved to Europe and became an assistant coach Jürgen Klinsmann at Bayern Munich. After Klinsmann was released on 27 April 2009 as a coach, had also Vasquez leave his post. A short time later they both left Europe and returned to North America.

On 2 December 2009, Vasquez head coach at Deportivo Chivas USA. There he took over the post of three weeks previously entlassenenen Predrag Radosavljević. This was the first chief supervisor station; he was released after just one season.

After Jurgen Klinsmann became coach of the 2011 U.S. soccer team, he hired Vasquez as an assistant coach.
