Martín Vassallo Argüello

Martín Vassallo Argüello Miguel ( born February 10, 1980 in Temperley, Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine tennis player.

Career

Vassallo Argüello began to play with the tennis and football at the age of nine years. At age 13, he opted for the sport of tennis.

In April 1998, the Argentine played his first Futures tournament in his home country. Until 2001, he played exclusively youth tournaments before he. His first tournament as part of the ATP Challenger Tour in August 2001 in Brazil In April 2002, he finally won his first Challenger tournament. In Rome, he hit on the Italian Filippo Volandri much sand in straight sets.

His first Grand Slam tournament played Vassallo Argüello in 2002 at the French Open in Paris. In the first round, he was eliminated by the U.S. American Todd Martin. In May 2006, he made his biggest single success when he pushed forward to the second round of the French Open. Here, however, he lost against his compatriot David Nalbandian in three sets. In Acapulco 2009, he also reached the semi-finals, but was eliminated by Nicolás Almagro.

Overall Martín Vassallo Argüello won eight Challenger tournaments, all on a sandy bottom. He personally called sand as his favorite game pad.

His only previous title in the ATP Tour Vassallo Arguello won in double in Acapulco on the side of the Italian Potito Starace. In the final he beat with his partner Czech duo Lukas Dlouhy and Pavel Vízner 6:0 and 6:2.
