David Nalbandian

David Pablo Nalbandian ( born January 1, 1982 in Unquillo, a suburb of Córdoba ) is a former Argentine tennis player. Nalbandian won in singles, including winning the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai in 2005 in his professional career eleven tournaments. The years 2003 to 2007 could finish the Argentines under each of the ten best players in the world tennis rankings, with his personal best was the third place ranking, he reached for the first time in March 2006.

Life

Nalbandian is the son of an Armenian father and an Italian mother. He is married and since end of May 2013 a daughter.

Tennis career

1998-2002

Nalbandian was one of the most successful junior player in 1998 and 1999. Way he could win the junior title of the U.S. Open and to win some more prestigious junior title in both the singles and the doubles in the 1998 season. The following year, the junior doubles title at Wimbledon, and the semi-finals followed in singles, where he missed the game because of a Schedule - misunderstanding. In both years, Nalbandian had already, before he took appearances on the Challenger and Futures tournament series in 2000, the jump to the professional tour. His first professional season ended Nalbandian after two semi-final appearances at the Challenger Tour among the top 300 players in the world rankings. 2001, the jump was followed by the top 50 players in the world, largely driven by two Challenger tournament victories, his first ATP final in Palermo and two semi-finals in tournaments this category. In Estoril Argentina won the following year the first ATP tournament of his career and at the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon Nalbandian attained at the professional tournament debut on the hallowed turf of Wimbledon final, where he was Lleyton Hewitt, however, clearly inferior. Later in the second tournament victory in Basel followed.

2003-2004

2003 Nalbandian reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open and played by consistent results during the season in the top ten in the world rankings before. At the U.S. Open he reached the semifinals, where he failed to score a match against American Andy Roddick and the game still lost. Due to some injuries, he could end of the season deny only a few tournaments, but qualified for the first time for the final season Tennis Masters Cup. 2004 reached Nalbandian turn the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and the semifinals of the French Open. A total of three tournament finals he reached this season (two of the Masters Series category) but was beaten in all finals. Also, due to several injuries Nalbandian slipped compared to last year a place to position 9 in the final world ranking list.

2005

2005 the Argentines in Munich succeeded after two and a half years, the first time a tournament success. 2008

At the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2008 season Nalbandian failed in the third round before in February he could claim his eighth career title overall in Buenos Aires. When hard court tournament in Indian Wells, he was able to reach at least the semi-finals after several tight games. After a rather below-average clay court season Nalbandian lost at the French Open in the second round against Jeremy Chardy surprisingly after a 2-0 set lead. After this setback Nalbandian reached the semifinals, where he was but a chance against Novak Djokovic after all, the warm-up tournament for Wimbledon in London's Queen's Club. Despite this defeat, it was already excited to see what can show Nalbandian at Wimbledon because he similar to fast surfaces such as grass was very successful last year. However, the finalist of 2002 had surprisingly no chance against the little-known Canadian Frank Dancevic. This was the first time that Nalbandian in round 1 at Wimbledon as a loser walked off. 2010

In the 2010 season, he reached the quarterfinals of the tournament in Buenos Aires on his comeback. Later in the season he was able to reach the quarter- finals of the Masters tournament in Monte Carlo. At 500 Tournament in Washington he could celebrate his first tournament victory since one and a half years in August 2010. In the final he beat Marcos Baghdatis and underwent a total of 11 career titles in the world ranking jumped by more than 70 positions to 45th place

2012

At the final round of the AEGON Championships 2012 Queen's Club in the men's singles against the Croats Marin Cilic joined Nalbandian after losing a rally at a score of 7:6 (7:3), 3:4 against an advertising board and injured the seated behind linesman Andrew McDougall as heavy that it had to be treated for a bleeding wound on his shin in the hospital. 2013

In the first half of the 2013 season Nalbandian played only in the South American tournament in Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires and Acapulco, as well as at the Masters in Indian Wells and Miami in the United States. In São Paulo, he reached the final against Rafael Nadal, but he was defeated in three sets.

Because of injuries, he had to refrain from further tournaments. His last match he played end in March 2013 as part of the Miami Masters in 2013 against Jarkko Nieminen. Nalbandian published on August 7, 2013 in a press release that his shoulder and hip surgery, which he had undergone in May, had gone with success and he slowly begin exercising. Nalbandian is a regular member of the Argentine Davis Cup team and can boast a 20:6 balance from a total of 12 games. In the final, Nalbandian won his two singles matches against Marat Safin and Nikolay Davydenko, the match was total but with 2:3 to Russia. In the 2007 season Nalbandian took only part in the quarter-final match against Sweden, where he lost his first singles match against Thomas Johansson and Argentina clearly defeated at the end with 1:4. In 2008, he reached the World Group final with Argentina in which Argentina however lost with 1:3. Nalbandian won a singles match against David Ferrer, but lost in the doubles side of Agustín Calleri against Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco. 2010 won Nalbandian of Argentina 3-2 against Sweden in both the singles match against Andreas Vinciguerra as well as the double on the side of Horacio Zeballos against Robert Lindstedt and Robin Soderling. 2011 played Nalbandian in the first round and the semi-finals each have a single, he could also win in the finals he won with Eduardo Schwank the double ( the only victory in the final, which Spain could clearly decide for themselves ). 2012 Nalbandian played in the first and second rounds respectively the double with Eduardo Schwank and one single, of which he won the double and single in the first round.
