Mary Chapin Carpenter

Mary Chapin Carpenter ( born February 21, 1958 in Princeton, New Jersey) is an American country and folk music singer- songwriter.

Life

Mary Chapin Carpenter was born in 1958 in Princeton, New Jersey, the daughter of a manager, and spent part of her childhood in Japan. 1974 her family moved to Washington, DC, where Carpenter circulating in the local folk music scene. She studied at Brown University and spent a year in Europe.

With guitarist John Jennings Carpenter founded a folk duo. They appeared in the Washington clubs and produced some demo tapes. 1987 Mary Chapin wrote a recording contract with Columbia Records. In the same year they released their debut album, Hometown Girl. The folk - oriented album initially made very little impression on the country scene. But already from the second album, State of the Heart, some singles were released, reached the charts mean positions.

Acceptance as a country singer, she finally gave in 1990 with Shooting Straight in the Dark.
