Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy

Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy ( MCPON ) is the highest NCO rank in the U.S. Navy. There is only one NCO (Non Commissioned Officer ) who holds this rank while this service position. He is the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO ). Since September 28, 2012 this is MCPON Michael D. Stevens.

Historical

The official position of the MCPON was introduced on January 13, 1967 under the name "Senior Enlisted Advisor of the Navy ." Three months later it was renamed the name used today. By 1971, their use designation carried the sailors who owned those capacities, continue to rank insignia, and later this was replaced by a gold star. The actual rank was introduced with the appointment of MCPON John Hagan, until then carried the official mail owner their previous rank.

Tasks

The MCPON is responsible for the interests of the non-commissioned officers of the U.S. Navy, is her superior and belongs to the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations to. He will be paid according to the grade E -9 ( NATO Rank Code OR -9).
