Math-Rock

Math-rock (derived from Math, English short form of " math ") is a rooted in progressive rock music style that developed in the late 1980s by complex guitar-driven rhythms on the basis of experimental rock music. Math rock is characterized by complex, atypical rhythmic structures, staccato melodies, and dissonant chords Riffdominanz.

Properties

Math - skirt puts on odd time signatures, intricate time signatures and dissonant sounds with an almost mathematical perfection value.

Math-rock commonly used asymmetric time signatures such as 7 /8, 11/8, 13/ 8, or constantly changing cycles in groups of two and three bars. This rhythmic complexity is often perceived by listeners as mathematical precision and gave this style its name.

Musically, this style is derived from other rock genres such as rock, heavy metal and punk rock.

The sound is dominated by guitar and drums ( as in a traditional skirt), but pierce the drummer in this style due to the high complexity often more prominent. Instrumental solos are practically not found.

It is often omitted in the math-rock entirely on vocals, such as purely instrumental bands like Don Caballero and Hella. Song or lyrics in this genre are not the focus, but rather be seen as part of the whole.

The math-rock was influenced by progressive rock and early avant-garde rock musicians such as Massacre, Bill Laswell, Captain Beefheart and John Zorn.
