Mathias Mester

Mathias " Matze " Mester ( born September 15, 1986 in Coesfeld ) is a successful athlete in the German Disabled Sports.

The diminutive Mester was and is successful in the disciplines discus throw, shot put and javelin. The 1.42 meter tall athlete who in early 2013 TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen moved to 1.FC Kaiserslautern is coached by Steffi Nerius.

Sporting successes (selection)

At the age of 18 years, he was Mester on August 13th and 14th 2005 in Berlin each International German Champion in the shot put, discus and javelin. In the two following years he won in the same disciplines three gold medals at the Junior World Championships (Dublin 2006) or the World Championships (Taiwan 2007). 2006 also came winning the World Championship title (IPC Athletics World Championships in Assen ) in the javelin added. In the Summer Paralympics in Beijing in 2008 Mester won the silver medal in the shot put. On 26 November 2009 Mester defended at the IWAS World Games in Bangalore his world title in the discus with a distance of 30.74 m; in the javelin he threw with a winning distance of 40.69 m the first midget throwing the device has more than 40 m.

In the IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon won Mester on July 22, 2013, the gold medal in the javelin. With a width of 41.26 meters, he remained in the second experiment, only 41 centimeters below its only recently established European record.

Awards

Already in 2007, won Mathias Mester local sports media price of Coesfeld. In the same year he was elected a disabled athlete of the year 2007. In 2008 he received the Silver Laurel Leaf, the highest sports award in Germany, from the hand of the then Federal President Horst Köhler. From the Land of North Rhine -Westphalia, he was proclaimed the " Sports Personality 2008 at the Disabled Sports ".
