Mathias Niederberger

Mathias Niederberger (born 26 November 1992 Dusseldorf ) is a German professional ice hockey goaltender who stands since June 2013 at the Manchester Monarchs in the American Hockey League contract. His father, Andreas Niederberger was also a professional hockey player.

Career

In Germany (2007-2011)

Mathias Niederberger began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior section of the DEG Metro Stars, for their U18 juniors he was active in the German Junior League from 2007 to 2010. In the 2007 /08 season he also played in parallel for the U18 Junior Ratingen Ice Aliens.

In the 2010/11 season, the goalkeeper was at the age of 17 years, his debut for the first team of the DEG Metro Stars in the German Ice Hockey League, as on 1 October 2010 he whole in the 0-3 defeat against EHC München during the was 60 minutes between the posts. In the following years he came as a substitute goalkeeper behind the Canadian Jean -Sébastien Aubin to other DEL missions and played for the Under-18 Junior DEG Metro Stars continue in the DNL. In addition, he was equipped with a mining license to the Oberliga EV Duisburg.

Barrie Colts (2011-2013)

For the 2011/12 season Niederberger moved to the Barrie Colts in the Canadian Junior Football League Ontario Hockey League, which had selected the goalie in the CHL Import Draft in 2011 in the first round to 25th position.

For NHL Entry Draft 2012, the Düsseldorf hoped to be selected by a team of North American professional league. The rights to Niederberger had, though he perform well at the Barrie Colts showed this season, ultimately secured none of the thirty NHL teams. With this release the part of the old association Niederberger could now return to North America.

Internationally

For Germany Niederberger took part in the U18 World Youth Championship Division I in 2010, when he reached with his team's promotion to the top division. For this success, he added, with a Gegentorschnitt of 0.67 per game and a catch rate of 96.5 percent for its three missions.
