Matilda of Carinthia

Matilda of Spanheim († December 13, 1160 or 1161 ), also known as Matilda of Carinthia, was descended from the noble Spannheimer and was the daughter of the Carinthian Duke Engelbert II of Spanheim and his wife Uta of Passau. She was the mother of Queen Adela of France.

Life and work

About the life of Mathilde 's down to their ancestry and their courtship unknown. She was born one of six children of Engelbert II of Spanheim and Uta of Passau. Mathilde was the only daughter of the couple.

At the Diet of King Lothair III. in Regensburg, in November 1125 came with Norbert of Xanten emissaries of Count Theobald IV of Champagne to advertise Mathilde, daughter of Engelbert, the brother of the local Bishop Hartwig I..
