Reginald II, Count of Bar

Rainald II († November 25, 1170 ) was a Count of Bar since 1149, and by 1155 marriage from Lord of Ligny.

He was a son of Count Renaud I and his wife, Gisela of Vaudémont.

Rainald participated with his father in the Second Crusade, where the father died in 1149. He led feuds against the Duke of Lorraine and Bishop of Metz. Latter he defeated in 1153 in a battle near Tircy. After an attack on the Abbey of Saint -Mihiel Rainald was in 1152 occupied by the excommunication which he was able to solve to the Church only after donations. He was buried after his death in Saint- Mihiel.

Rainald was since 1155 married to Agnes of Blois, a daughter of Count Theobald IV. / II. of Blois -Champagne. Agnes brought as a dowry to the rule of Ligny in marriage. Their children were:

  • Theobald I ( † 1214 ), Count of Bar
  • Rainald († December 9, 1217 ), in 1183 Bishop of Chartres
  • Hugo († July 25, 1192 ), Canon and Provost of the Cathedral of Chartres
  • Havide, Abbess of Clairfontaine
