Matjaž Debelak

Matjaž Debelak ( born August 27, 1965 in Braslovče ) is a former Yugoslavian ski jumper.

On December 22, 1985 in Chamonix Debelak gave his debut in the World Cup Ski Jumping. He won eighth place with his first World Cup points. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1987 in Oberstdorf Debelak jumped on the normal hill on the 23th Place and on the large hill on the 28th place.

At the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988 Debelak won on the large hill behind Matti Nykänen and Erik Johnsen the bronze medal. In the team competition, he reached the silver medal together with Primoz Ulaga, Matjaž Zupan and Miran Tepeš. Also in two competitions after the games in Planica he jumped into the top ten. He was then awarded the 1988 Slovenian sportsman of the year. He was the first ski jumper by Danilo Pudgar, who in 1972 received this award.

The World Cup season 1988/89 he started with two top - 10 finishes in Lake Placid and Sapporo. There were, however, in his last World Cup rankings in the top ten. Only in the Nordic World Ski Championships 1989 in Lahti, he jumped with room 6 on the normal hill again in the top ten. After he could not achieve any more World Cup points in the 1989/90 World Cup season, he finished in 1990 his active ski jumping career.
