Mats Kihlström

Mats Bernhard Kihlström ( born January 3, 1964 in Ludvika ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player and current - functionary.

Career

Mats Kihlström began his career as a hockey player with the Södertälje SK, for the first team he gave his debut in the season 1981/82 in the second class Division 1. In the following season with his team, he managed to climb into the Elitserien. There, the defender also appeared in the 1983/84 season at Sodertalje, before he spent two years in the league rivals Brynäs IF. Then he returned to Södertälje SK with which he descended in the 1991/92 season in the Division 1. Following the 1992/93 season, he ended his active career at the age of 29 years.

In the 2009/10 season Kihlström worked as sporting director in his parent club Södertälje SK.

Internationally

For Sweden Kihlström took part in the Under-18 European Junior Championships in 1981 and 1982 as well as the U20 World Junior Championships in 1983 and 1984 at junior level. In the U18 European Championship 1981, he won the bronze in the U18 European Championship in 1982 the gold medal with his team.

In the senior level, he stood in his country's squad at the World Championships in 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1989 and at the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988. In the 1986 World Cup, he won the silver at the 1987 World Championships gold medal with Sweden. At the Winter Games in 1988 he reached the bronze medal with his team.
