Matt McGrath

Matt McGrath (actually Matthew John McGrath, born December 18, 1878 in Nenagh, County Tipperary, † January 29, 1941 in New York) was an American hammer thrower and Olympic champion.

In 1912 he won at the Olympic Games in Stockholm with a width of 54.74 meters. He was so superior that its short throw was nearly four feet wider than the width of the second- placed Duncan Gillis from Canada. As the winner of the hammer throwing at the Olympic Games in 1900, 1904 and 1908, John Flanagan, McGrath was also a policeman and immigrants from Ireland.
