Matt Walker (ice hockey)

Matthew Walker ( born April 7, 1980 in Beaverlodge, Alberta ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is since 2010 at the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Walker began his career in 1997 in the Canadian junior Western Hockey League with the Portland Winter Hawks, with whom he was already in his first season, winning the President's Cup. Then, it was entitled to play the Memorial Cup, you also, after a final victory against the champions of the Ontario Hockey League, the Guelph Storm won. In the summer of 1998, he was selected to a total of 83 position during the NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues in the third round. Walker was then a further two years in the WHL, before the 2000/01 season in the American Hockey League with the Worcester IceCats, the former farm team of the Blues, changed. Two years later, during the season 2002 / 03, he was given the chance to prove himself in the NHL. In the end, he played 16 games for the St. Louis Blues, where the right-handed shooter could achieve a point scorer.

After another 15 NHL inserts the following season, he spent the season 2004/ 05, which turned out due to the lockout, completely in the AHL with the IceCats. With the beginning of the season 2005/ 06, Walker was able to establish in the squad of the St. Louis Blues and consequently maintained 54 games in which he scored two assists. His first goal in the National Hockey League, he scored on 17 February 2008, during a game of his blues against the Columbus Blue Jackets. After his contract expired after the season 2007/ 08 and was not renewed, he joined as a free agent with the Chicago Blackhawks.
