Maurice Turrettini

Maurice Turrettini ( born July 24, 1878 in Geneva, † October 25, 1932 in Boisy ) was a Swiss architect.

Life

Maurice Turrettini was born on July 24, 1878 in Geneva, the son of the banker Albert Turrettini and his wife Edmée. His ancestors were originally from Lucca in Tuscany and were 1578 passes as religious refugees in Calvinist Geneva. In the pedigree of the family can be found next Turrettini bankers also theologians such as Jean- François Alphonse or Turrettini.

After graduation he studied architecture at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic in Zurich. Among his teachers were Benjamin Recordon, builder of the Swiss Federal Court in Lausanne and Professor at the Polytechnic Institute from 1890 to 1916 and Gustav Gull, former city architect and professor of Zurich 1900 until 1929.

After completing his studies and returning to Geneva in 1904, he married Justine de Watteville ( born July 3, 1879 in Bern, † 1967 ) from the Bernese patrician family of Wattenwyl. In the following year he founded with the architect Guillaume Revilliod ( born February 2, 1877 in Geneva, † February 8, 1961 in Paris), the architectural firm Revilliod - Turrettini, which existed until 1920. The office made ​​himself a name in the following years with the construction and renovation of banks and administrative buildings as well as single and multi- family homes. In addition to the conversion of farms on the outskirts of Geneva and in the adjacent French Haute -Savoie and the two architects also designed factory buildings, especially during the years of the First World War.

In 1907, Maurice Turrettini involved in the discussion site for the 400th birthday of John Calvin in Geneva scheduled Reformation Monument. In 1911, he joined the Swiss Association of Engineers and Architects Club. Turretini was also a member of the Comité international des architectes permanently and corresponding member of the Royal Institute of British Architects.

In the area of ​​sports Turrettini was a successful ten -time winner of the Swiss Tennis Championships.

He died at the age of 54 years on October 25, 1932 on his castle in Boisy.

Performance

In its banking and commercial buildings he turned preferably modern forms - noteworthy in this context is particularly the bank building of Credit Suisse in the Rue de la Confédération in the style of modernity that he carried out together with the Swiss concrete pioneer civil engineer Robert Maillart.
