Maximilian von Laffert

Maximilian of Laffert ( born May 10, 1855 in Lindau, † July 20, 1917 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a Saxon officer, last general of the cavalry during the First World War.

Life

Maximilian was the son of Charles of Laffert tax director and his wife, Clear, born of the Wense. He finished high school in Celle, visited since 1871 the Dresden Cadet Corps and joined on 1 April 1874 as a second lieutenant in the Infantry Regiment "König Ludwig III. of Bavaria " (3rd Royal Saxon ) No 102 in Zittau. After more than two years took place on July 1, 1876, he was transferred to the 1st Royal Saxon Hussar Regiment "King Albert" No. 18, where acted Laffert from 1 November 1878 as regimental adjutant, and was as such on April 28, 1879 promoted first lieutenant. From October 1st 1883 to April 30th 1885 you commanded him to the Prussian Military Academy in Berlin. Was Laffert then on September 21, 1907 Commander of 23 Cavalry Brigade (1st Royal Saxon ) and was commissioned at the same time from October 1, 1907, carry out the duties of the inspector of riding establishment. He also held at the outbreak of the First World War this position. After the mobilization, he led the Corps in the composite of the 3rd Army on the Western Front of the Meuse on the Aisne to the Marne and was able to excel in the local battle. He was then instrumental in the capture of Lille and fought in the following years mainly due to the Lys and in the front section to Lille.

Laffert died suddenly and unexpectedly during a mission by a heartbeat in Frankfurt am Main. He was buried at the North Cemetery in Dresden.
