Mazzy Star

Mazzy Star is an American alternative rock band from Los Angeles, founded in 1989 by David Roback and Hope Sandoval.

Biography

David Roback first played as a guitarist in the paisley underground band Rain Parade, rose after the debut album, but again to Kendra Smith (former Dream Syndicate ) to found the group Clay Allison, from which later was Opal. He became aware of Hope Sandoval Through a demo recording and took them to the group, where it replaced as a singer during the final tour Kendra Smith. Other members were Will Glenn (former Rain Parade ) and Keith Mitchell (former Green on Red ). After the dissolution of the group Roback and Sandoval continued to work as a duo under the name of Mazzy Star. Wrote the lyrics Hope Sandoval, David Roback took while composing. In addition, the band consisted of alternating accompanying musicians.

The first plate She Hangs Brightly was released in 1990 and offered melancholic, guitar -minded folk pop, psychedelic pieces and hints of Delta blues and hard rock. The lyrics were dark stories of unhealthy relationships, unrequited love or imminent parting, often cryptic and with suicidal hints. The second plate So Tonight That I Might See led down this path, only the Blues had almost disappeared and mitigated the skirt portion. The last official record, Among My Swan, the musically homogenous work of Mazzy Star, with only a few harsh guitar parts and a little psychedelia. It contained mainly romantic, spherical, supported by catchy melodies minor songs, who performed Sandoval todtrauriger and resigned voice. The last piece Look On Down from the Bridge ( From the bridge looking down ) is a swan song for the band Mazzy Star, which still exists, but for a long time did not publish any more albums.

As recently as 2009 Hope Sandoval told in an interview that another Mazzy Star album is already completed. It took another four years until the album titled Seasons of Your Day published on September 24, 2013. For the first time, the band was able to place in the charts in many European countries.

The most successful song by Mazzy Star was previously Fade into You, which appeared on the album So Tonight That I Might See in 1993 and was released as a single with accompanying video.
