Rain Parade

The Rain Parade is an American band from San Francisco that existed in the early 1980 until mid 1980. She has published several plates in the style of psychedelia and guitar rock, influenced by 1960s bands such as, among others, The Byrds, Pink Floyd, Love, Buffalo Springfield, the New York group Television and the Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young.

In addition to Plan 9 from Rhode Iceland, Plasticland from Milwaukee and Three O'Clock in Los Angeles The Rain Parade were the classic representative of the neo- psychedelia, with the rave and acid house especially in England reached its commercial peak later.

The group belonged to the Paisley Underground in Los Angeles, which is characterized by close personal ties with the other bands (Dream Syndicate, Bangles, Long Ryders, Green on Red, True West) distinguished.

The Group had with Matt Piucci and Steven Roback two very good songwriter, who also took turns in the lead vocals and always produced a varied sound.

The debut album Emergency Third Rail Power Trip appeared curiously, in England, where took place the early 1980s a neo psychedelia revival. Fanzines such as, but bucketfull of Brains were involved here significantly and cheered as the English music press the unusual sound of Rain Parade.

The 1984 mini- LP Explosions in the Glass Palace was compositionally more mature and better produced and contained, among other things, the classic You Are My Friend and the mantra -like No Easy Way Down.

The popularity of the paisley underground extended to Japan. So Rain Parade went there on tour and the resulting live album Beyond the Sunset first appeared in Enigma Records, and later in Iceland Records. Steve Wynn and Dennis Duck of Dream Syndicate have a guest appearance at Cheap Wine. Michael Ruff praised in Musik Express / Sounds 9 /85, the " cloudy- psychedelic sound world " Rain Parades and " their fantastically Syd Barrett -inspired nursery rhyme texts on which sound guitars, keyboards, violin, bass and drums, as they would with kid gloves played ".

After the band by Ian Matthews was taken for Iceland Records, they released the LP Crashing Dream, which was chosen in 1985 by the New Musical Express / Sounds album of the month. Despite excellent reviews and a tour of Germany together with Robyn Hitchcock, the band could not meet the commercial expectations of the record company and was released from the contract, which meant the end for Rain Parade.

While colleagues like R.E.M. especially in college radio alternative area soon became commercially successful, Rain Parade always remained only critic favorites, although commercial potential was certainly present.

David Roback left the band after the first LP and founded with Kendra Smith (ex - The Dream Syndicate ) Clay Allison, the Opal and Mazzy Star were. Ironically, this project was much more commercially successful than his ex - band.

Matt Piucci published after the end of Rain Parade a duo LP with Tim Lee (The Windbreakers ) and founded by Steven Roback Viva Saturn, who made recordings for Heyday Records / Normal Records.

Matt Piucci took in 2000 on a solo CD for the label by Russ Tolman and Pat Thomas and later joined for a CD at the Neil Young's band Crazy Horse.

John Thoman later played in the band of Chris Cacavas.

Will Glenn (born William Glenn Cooper ) joined after the end of Rain Parade Opal keyboards and died on 16 March 2001 after illness (liver damage).
