The Bangles

The Bangles (English for bracelet ) are an American pop group, formed in 1981 in Los Angeles. Their biggest hits were, among others, Manic Monday, Walk Like an Egyptian and Eternal Flame.

History

1981-1983: First Steps

Beginning of 1981 found the sisters Vicki and Debbi Peterson over a newspaper advertisement Susanna Hoffs. The three shared a love for the music of the sixties. They called their newly formed group, The Bangs and began performing in clubs in Greater Los Angeles. In addition, they played on their own a single (A: Getting out of hand, B: Call on Me ), and totaled a local reputation. 1982 added bassist Annette Zilinskas the group. In this composition, the 12 " single Bangles was published in 1982. Zilinskas remained only one year in the band and was replaced by Michael Steele, former bassist for the band The Runaways (1975).

1984-1987: Breakthrough

In 1984, she signed a recording contract with Columbia Records and released in the summer of the same year her first album All Over The Place. The singles Hero Takes a Fall and Going Down to Liverpool brought minor successes.

It was not until the early 1986 released second album Different Light led to national and international fame. For this album four successful singles were released, most notably the World successes Manic Monday ( 2nd in USA, UK and Germany; composed by Christopher, a pseudonym behind which Prince hidden ) and Walk Like an Egyptian (number 1 in the U.S. and Germany ). In Germany they were successful with the third extraction If She Knew What She Wants (Top 20), while the fourth single Walking Down Your Street again found in the U.S. and in the UK in the same chart regions.

1988-1989: climax and separation

The constant Tour stress as well as artistic differences led to tensions within the group. In addition, the fixation of the public attended to Susanna Hoffs for dissatisfaction with the other members of the band. Although each of the women wrote their own songs and sang, it was Hoffs, most of whom stood for photos in the foreground. This aroused besides the fact that she was the lead singer of the hits ( Manic Monday, If She Knew What She Wants, or Eternal Flame ), the impression that she was the leader of the group.

So it was that even the album Everything ( 1988) is recorded from which the Singles In Your Room, Be With You, I'll Set You Free and the worldwide hit Eternal Flame ( 1989, # 1 in USA and GB and space 4 were released in Germany ), but then seemed to be no real cooperation possible.

In the fall of 1989, Susanna Hoffs, the end of the band officially announced at a press conference.

1999-2003: Reunion and comeback

Over time, contacts were again and again and in February 1999 the group for ten years, met for the first time in the recording studio together to record the title Get the Girl for the soundtrack of the film Austin Powers 2. It was followed by a joint performance in June 1999 at the Beatles Tribute Concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

The chemistry within the group voted again and richer in experience we decided to give it a fresh start. In September 2000, the Bangles since 1989 went for the first time on tour.

Finally, in 2003 released their self-produced comeback album Doll Revolution, also known, especially in Germany was ( # 3 in the German airplay charts ), where the Bangles the title in the TV show betting together with the single release Something That You Said, dass. presented.

Since 2005: Self and plates

In April 2005, bassist Michael Steele announced her withdrawal from the group. The group then played in the founding members with Susanna Hoffs, Debbi Peterson and Vicky continue regular live concerts, mostly in the United States.

In August 2007, the first official live DVD of the group appeared under the title Return To Bangleonia - Live in Concert. It contains a concert at the House Of Blues in Los Angeles in the year 2000.

On 27 September 2011, the fifth studio album by the Bangles appeared. It is titled Sweetheart of the Sun.
