Mel Galley

Mel Galley ( born March 8, 1948 in Cannock, Staffordshire, † July 1, 2008 Heath Hayes, Staffordshire) was an English rock guitarist, among other things, was active in Whitesnake and trapezoids.

Biography

First experiences gained Galley in the band Finders Keepers. Along with Glenn Hughes, Dave Holland, John Jones and Terry Rowley founded Mel Galley 1969 Trapeze. Even after Hughes joined Deep Purple, Galley remained the band, who suffered from constant line- up changes, loyal until 1979. In 1983 he played on Cozy Powell's solo album octopus.

In 1984, he brought with him his brother and music producer Tom Galley and Wilfried F. Rimensberger the project Phenomena at the start. He participated in all four albums, most recently at the 2006 Psycho Fantasy. Under Rimensbergers increased influence makes Phenomena became the all-star project and gathered since then many of the greats of hard rock, such as Cozy Powell, Brian May, Kyoji Yamamoto, John Wetton and Scott Gorham.

Already in 1982, concurred with Galley Whitesnake and played on their album Saints & Sinners and the 1984 album Slide It In. While on tour in Germany, there was an accident and the guitarist injured his arm. The treatment failed. The nerve damage was so severe that it was feared he had to give up playing the guitar. However, a special wire mesh with the nickname " The Claw " allowed him to continue his career. In 1986 he was able to participate in any other Phenomema album. In addition, he founded in 1986 together with the two ex- Whitesnake members Bernie Marsden and Neil Murray MGM ( for Murray Galley Marsden ). The band played live occasionally, but could not record album.

In 1991, a reunion of trapezoids. Dave Holland, who has now become a star with Judas Priest, Glenn Hughes, Galley and Geoff Downes, the keyboardist and singer of Asia, formed the band reformed. In addition to several appearances and a live album was released. Subsequently, Galley withdrew from the music business. In 2007 he presented a swindler who spent ten years as he and inter alia Had made appearances in various clubs under galleys name.

On 7 February 2007 Galley published a message on his MySpace blog that he was suffering from esophageal cancer. He succumbed to the disease on July 1, 2008.
