Mella is a city and a municipality in the extreme north of the Cuban province of Santiago de Cuba on the border with the province of Holguín. The main industry is sugar production.

Of historical interest is the place Mangos de Baraguá, where General Antonio Maceo handed a note of protest against the peace of Zanjón to the Spaniards.

The municipality has 33,667 inhabitants Mella distributed on an area of 335 km ², which corresponds to a population density of 100.4 per km ².

The small town of Mella was originally called Miranda, after the sugar factory, around which it had arisen. After the Cuban Revolution in both the factory and the place was renamed in honor of the communist activist and student leader Julio Antonio Mella with the nationalization of the sugar industry in August 1961.
