Memphis metropolitan area

In 2000, the Memphis metropolitan area had 1,205,204 inhabitants. Until the census in 2010 the population increased to 1.3161 million.

In the official census in 2000 a population of 1,205,204 was determined. These were distributed over 448 473 households in 312 422 families.

The population was in 2000 from 52.9 percent White, 43.5 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native Americans, Asians 1.3 percent and 1.2 percent other. 1.0 percent said to be descended from at least two of these groups. 2.4 percent of the population consisted of Hispanics who belonged to the various of the aforementioned groups.

The median income per household was 35,988 U.S. dollars ( USD), the median family income $ 41,130. The median income for men was $ 32,830, and for women about $ 22,970. The per capita income amounted to $ 16,729.
