MenteÅŸe (beylik)

Menteşe ( Turkish Menteşe Beyliği ) was a Turkish Beylik, which originated in the west of the empire of the Seljuks of Konya at the time of its decay after the defeat against the Mongols ( 1243 ) in the second half of the 14th century. Capital was Milas.

The founder and namesake of the Beyliks Menteşe Bey was previously in the service of Germiyan and was a member of Oghusenstammes Afşar. The Beys of Menteşe extended their power from the coast to the hinterland of Caria and about 1285 in the territory of Miletus. Your territory corresponded roughly to the present province of Muğla. They had close trade relations with the Republic of Venice and Crete; in Miletus lived a Venetian consul.
