The fever clover plants ( Menyanthaceae ) are a plant family in the order of the aster -like ( Asterales ). In this family, there are five species and about 40 ( to 60 ) species with global distribution. In Central Europe, there is the three-leaf clover fever ( Menyanthes trifoliata ), also called three-bladed buckbean, and the European floating heart ( Nymphoides peltata ).

Description

There are herbaceous water or marsh plants. Stipules there is not. The stalked leaves are alternate, spirally arranged on the stem or base of the plant. They are simple or compound. The leaf margins are smooth. Stipules absent.

The flowers are borne ( inflorescence ), individually or in capitate, zymösen, paniculate or racemose inflorescences. The hermaphrodite flowers are usually fünfzählig and mostly radial symmetry. The two Blütenhüllblattkreise are distinctly different. The five sepals are fused. The five petals are fused. There are one or two circles, each with five free stamens, but only five of them are fertile. Two carpels are fused into a single chamber, upper continuous (or partially inferior ) ovary. It is a pen and two scars present. Are formed capsule fruits or berries.

  • Bogbean ( Menyanthes ): It is a monotypic genus with the only kind: Triple-blade bogbean ( Menyanthes trifoliata ), also called three-bladed buckbean, with a wide distribution in the Holarctic.
  • Nephrophyllidium crista -galli
