Is the type species Merrilliopanax listeri ( King) HLLi. The genus name honors the Merrilliopanax American botanist Elmer Drew Merrill ( 1876-1956 ).

The genus belongs to the subfamily Merrilliopanax Aralioideae within the family Araliaceae.

There are only three Merrilliopanax types:

  • Tibetan rice paper tree ( Merrilliopanax alpinus ( CBClarke ) CBShang, Syn: Brassaiopsis alpina CBClarke, Merrilliopanax Tibetanus CYWu & SKWu, Pseudobrassaiopsis alpina ( CBClarke ) RNBanerjee, Tetrapanax Tibetanus G.Hoo, Merrilliopanax cordifolius Sastry ): The home ranges from northeastern India through Bhutan and Nepal to southern Tibet.

Use

The Tibetan rice paper tree ( Merrilliopanax alpinus, Chinese :西藏 常春 木xi zang chang chun mu) and Merrilliopanax listeri, Chinese :常春 木chang chun mu, are used as a medicinal herb in traditional Chinese medicine.
