Metal is the first EP of the American heavy metal band Newsted. It was published on January 8, 2013 Chophouse Records.

Formation

Originally wanted singer and bassist Jason Newsted to the wedding with his wife Nicole take the song cobalt. A friend rented him the Studio Creation Lab in the Californian city of Turlock for a week in October 2012. The band paid $ 2000 for this purpose. Within three days, the song was added cobalt. On the remaining four days, the musicians took on four more songs that were eventually released on the EP. The songs King of the Underdogs and skyscraper wrote Jason Newsted already in 2006 for the project Rock Star Supernova, the Newsted his time operation with Tommy Lee and Gilby Clarke. The song Soldier Head was loud Newsted within 20 minutes.

Produced EP by Jason Newsted, with the support of Frank Munoz. Recorded, mixed and mastered by Anthony was Metal Focx. For the song Soldier Head a music video was filmed. Metal was released on Newstedts own record label, Chophouse Records and was only available through iTunes first. A week later, the EP was released on CD.

Background

The song Soldier Head was inspired by the CV of Pat Tillman. Tillman was a professional American football player in the National Football League. After the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, he ended his career and joined the United States Army on. In Afghanistan, Tillman died by fire by its own army. Godsnake refers to a story from the Bible, God appears in the form of a snake. With the song Jason Newsted wants to express, that you should not judge other people by their appearance. Skyscraper is an anti- war song.

Reception

Gregory Heaney of Allmusic wrote that Metal was " certainly a promising first shot of a heavy metal Veterans ", the " hungry holds for more ' the fans of Newsteds other projects. Reinhold Reither from the Austrian online magazine Stormbringer designated Metal While " not as the yellow of the egg ," but as " worth listening first sign of life a new band " and awarded 3.5 out of five.

The EP was sold in the first week after the release of about 6,200 copies in the U.S. and was ranked 62 of the U.S. album charts.
