Metaxourgeio

Metaxourgio (Greek Μεταξουργείο (n. sg. ) ) Or Metaxourgeio is a neighborhood of Athens. The neighborhood is located south of the historical center of Athens, between the east and Kerameikos Colonus in the west, and north of Gazi.

History

Metaxourgio was built on the Dimosio Sima, the ancient cemetery of Athens bedeutendene citizens. Until the 19th century, the area was rural. This changed with the establishment of the silk factory (Greek Metaxourgio ). Near the factory to craft shops and settled, as well as workers' dwellings were built. Architecture and street art

During a tour of Metaxourgio to rise, fall and resurrection of the district shows through its architecture and art. The narrow streets and occasional cobblestone walkways help to create a village-like atmosphere. Large and monotonous houses stand next to decaying, abandoned buildings that have frills -like neoclassical elements. Some of the latter are preserved and restored as a stage rooms and restaurants from ruin. Street art is everywhere, ranging from the contributions of professional artists during the ReMap2 project to the work of anonymous artists who have the brick walls, ready for construction buildings and public green areas added interesting details.

Famous people

  • Alekos Fassianos ( born 1935) is a distinguished and celebrated Greek painter, whose latest work, "The myth of my district " in the metro station Metaxourgeio is issued. Since his first exhibition in Athens 1953, he has more than 70 exhibitions dedicated to him in Paris, Athens, Thessaloniki, Milan, New York, London, Tokyo, Beirut, Hamburg, Munich and experienced elsewhere. Besides painting he is working on writing, poster designs, the illustration of books and various publications in Greece and abroad.
  • Anthony Samarakis was born in 1919 in Athens. He studied law at Athens University. He has become not only active as a writer, but also as a concerned citizen in the events known by its enormous social commitment.
  • Vicky Moscholiou is a famous Greek singer, born 1943 in Metaxourgeio. They told her a ' special ' voice after. She became famous in 1964 with Stavros Xarhakos ' song " Hathike to feggari " ( The moon is lost ), which was composed for the film Lola. After two of her hits nightclubs are named in Athens, " Deilina " ( afternoons ) and " Ximeromata " ( dawn ).   • Giorgos Zampetas was born in 1925 in Metaxourgeio and is considered one of the greatest bouzouki player, also recognized as a composer and singer. He showed interest in music at a young age when he played secretly in his father's hair salon on the bouzouki. At seven, he won a school competition by playing his first self- composed song.
  • Tassos Livaditis ( April 1922 - October 1988) was a born in Metaxourgeio poet whose poems obtained by the settings of the composer Mikis Theodorakis celebrity.
  • Sotiris Spathari was born in 1892 on the island of Santorini. Even in childhood, his parents moved into the quarter Metaxourgeio in Athens, where he learned of Theodoros Theodorellos, a pupil of Mimaros, the art of shadow theater. Started in 1950 Spathari to write his memoirs, which were first published in 1960 and historians offered rich material to origins and development of the shadow theater. He died on 17 April 1974.
  • Aristomenis Provelengios (1914-1999) is a celebrated Greek architect, who was president of the Hellenic Institute of Architects for a period of time from 1962. One of his works, which can still be seen today, is Au Revoir in Patission Street, one of the last of the old local cafes.
  • Zeta Makripoulia ( born 1978) is an actress, television presenter and radio DJ. After she had already occurred in a significant number of TV series and plays, she was known by the success of the TV series Para Pente a wide audience. Between 2008 and 2010 she starred in three feature films. One of her television appearances, which was broadcast around the world, was the Euro Vision Song Contest 2006 in Athens.
