Metropolitan Borough of Oldham

Oldham is a metropolitan borough in the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester in England. Administrative center is the city of Oldham. Other important towns in the Borough are Chadderton, Failsworth, Lees, Royton, Saddleworth and Shaw and Crompton.

The reorganization of the limits and the capabilities of local authorities led in 1974 to form the Metropolitan Borough. Were fused while the Oldham County Borough and Urban District Chadderton, Shaw and Crompton, Failsworth and Lees. These authorities previously belonged to the county of Lancashire. From Yorkshire Urban District of Saddleworth has been added.

1986 Oldham was in fact a Unitary Authority, as the central government dissolved the superordinate management of Greater Manchester. Oldham was for ceremonial purposes part of Greater Manchester, as well as for individual higher-level tasks such as police, fire and public transport.
