Michael Kijana Wamalwa

Michael Christopher Wamalwa Kijana ( born November 25, 1944 in Kitale, Trans Nzoia District, Rift Valley Province; † August 23, 2003 in Camden, England) was a Kenyan politician.

Biography

The son of influential MPs William Wamalwa began after the school in 1965 to study at King's College, University of Cambridge, which he finished in 1968. After a subsequent post-graduate studies in law at the London School of Economics 1970 he was admitted to the bar of Lincoln 's Inn. On his return to Kenya, he became a professor of law at the University of Nairobi. Later, he also served as Director General of the Kenya Stone Mining Company.

Wamalwa began his political career in 1979 as a candidate of the Unity Party of Kenya African National Union (KANU ) with the election of Members of Parliament, after he had been unsuccessful candidate for election in 1974.

After the abolition of Einparteienstaatss by President Daniel arap Moi in 1992, he joined the Forum for the Restoration of Democracy at ( Forum for the Restoration of Democracy, FORD ) and after the death of Oginga Odinga in 1994 chairman of the faction of FORD - Kenya. In the presidential elections in 1997, he ran as a candidate of FORD -K for the office of President, but was defeated by incumbent arap Moi.

In October he made as chairman of FORD -K, at that time the third largest party in the country, with ten other parties called the National Rainbow Coalition ( National Rainbow Coalition ( NARC ) ). In the subsequent elections in January 2003, which led to the end of arap Moi's 24 - year reign, he was elected as the successor of Musalia Mudavadi for the eighth Vice President of Kenya since independence on 12 December 1963. Seven months later he died in office. Successor as Vice- President was in September 2003, Moody Awori.
