Michael Petros III Kasparian

Mikael Bedros III. Kasbarian OAM, Michael Peter III. Kasbarian, (*, ? † November 10, 1780 in Bzommar, Jordan ) was the third Armenian Catholic Patriarch of Cilicia. He is the founder of the Armenian Catholic Church in Bzommar.

Life

Mikael Kasbarian was first a monk of the Armenian Antonians and came from Aleppo in Syria. He was ordained in 1753 as bishop of the Armenian Catholic Church and was elected Patriarch of Cilicia. On June 23, 1753 his election was confirmed. During his tenure, a church for the Armenian Catholic Church was inaugurated in 1771 in Bzommar.

General

With the expansion of the Armenian Catholic Church Kasbarian recognized the need of missionary work and called a training center for missionaries to life. His attempt to settle the Congregation of the Antonians in Bzommar failed because of their desire to independence.
