Michael Schultz (gallerist)
Michael Schultz (* November 4, 1951 in Freudenstadt / Schwarzwald ) is an internationally, especially in the Asian art market, acting German gallery owner and art dealer. He operates two galleries in Berlin ( Galerie Michael Schultz and schultz contemporary ) as well as branches in Beijing and Seoul.
Biography
Michael Schultz studied from 1974 to 1978 music and theater sciences at the Free University of Berlin. He was chief editor of the Berliner ART magazine and subsequently Managing Director of Wewerka Gallery ( Berlin).
In 1986 he founded the Michael Schultz Gallery in Berlin, which presented predominantly German artist. The gallery opened in 2005 schultz contemporary then he shifted his emphasis on young contemporary art. In 2006 he opened a gallery in Seoul (Director: Cho Sung- Sun ) and 2007 came another gallery in Beijing added (Director: Hu Huijun ).
Michael Schultz from 1985 to 2007 member of the Admissions Committee of the Art Cologne. Since 2005 he is member of the Art Committee KIAF in Seoul / Korea and in 2007 a member of the selection committee of the Art Fair 21, Cologne and exhibition committee of the Munich Contempo.
Michael Schultz works closely with international museums together: with the Kunsthalle Dresden, Kunsthalle Rostock, the Today Art Museum in Beijing, the Gwangju Museum of Art and the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul. Based on his work in Korea Gwangju appointed him on 24 February 2008 an honorary citizen.

In the early years the gallery has represented mainly then established artists such as Georg Baselitz, Markus Liipertz and AR Penck, as well as from the United States Jean -Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Robert Indiana, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, and Andy Warhol.
From 2005, was the focus shifted to the discovery and the development of international positions young art. These included, inter alia, Helge Leiberg and Cornelia mucus. Currently, the gallery has represented: Sonja Alhäuser, Feng Lu, Bernd Kirschner, Römer Römer, Sabina Sakoh, SEO and Maik Wolf.
On the secondary market, the gallery is featuring works by Georg Baselitz, Markus Liipertz, AR Penck, Sigmar Polke, Robert Rauschenberg, Gerhard Richter and Andy Warhol. In addition, the big art fairs including ARCO / Madrid, Art Cologne, Art Miami, Armory Show / New York and Art Stage Singapore, represented.
