Michael Sporn

, Michael Sporn (* 23 April 1946 in New York; January 19, 2014 † ibid.) was an American animator, film director and screenwriter, best known for his film adaptations children's books and tales.

Life

Spur began in the 1970s for John Hubley and Faith Hubley to work as an animator and has been involved, among other things at the movies Cockaboody, Everybody Rides The Carousel and the Letterman series. By Richard Williams, he worked at the 1977 animated film Raggedy Ann and Andy: A Musical Adventure.

In 1980, Sporn founded his own animation studio Michael Sporn Animation. In the following years numerous animated films and series follow exist primarily for television. He successfully became especially with its adaptations of children's books, including Morris ' Disappearing Bag ( 1982) for a children's book by Rosemary Wells, as well as Doctor de Soto to a children's book by William Steig. Doctor De Soto, in 1985, an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Short Film. Another film adaptation of a book by William Steig in 1989 Abel's Iceland, which received an Emmy nomination and was broadcast by PBS in the series Long Ago & Far Away. For the broadcast on HBO children's film The Story of Dancing Frog on a book by Quentin Blake Spur received a CableACE Award. Multiple adapted spur works of Hans Christian Andersen, including The Red Shoes (1989) and The Little Match Girl ( 1990).

Spur died at the age of 67 years on January 19, 2014 in Manhattan, from pancreatic cancer.
