Quentin Blake

Sir Quentin Saxby Blake ( born December 16, 1932 in Sidcup, London ) is an English cartoonist, illustrator and children's book author. He was the first winner of the award Children's Laureate 1999-2001.

Life

His first drawings drafted Blake at the age of 16 years for the magazine Punch. From 1953 to 1956 he studied English Literature at Downing College, University of Cambridge, and then at the University of London and at the Chelsea School of Art at the Royal College of Art, he earned a graduate degree.

Quentin Blake has gained a reputation as a humorous fantasy and children's book illustrator and illustrated more than 300 books. In particular, his drawings for the stories of Roald Dahl have become known internationally. In addition, Quentin Blake wrote next to his collaboration with Dahl also own books. His drawing technique consists of a volatile - quick but precise line. The pen and ink drawings he then colored with watercolors.
