Richard Williams (Animator)

Richard Williams ( born March 19, 1933, Toronto, Ontario ) is a Canadian animator, director and film producer who became best known for the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit, where he was responsible for the animation. Because of his work, he spent a long time in England, he now lives in Bristol. Williams is a three time Academy Award winner.

Career

He moved from Canada to Spain and worked there as a painter until he fascinated by the possibilities of animation, decided to become a filmmaker. To implement his plan, he went in 1955 to London. He financed his film The Little Iceland through animated television advertising. He could create his own studio, which in turn has won various awards and was also a commercial success by the success of this nominated for the British Film Academy Award film. Among the employed there animators included, among others, the former Disney employees kind Babbitt ( creator of Goofy ) and Milt Kahl ( animated Shir Khan).

In 1973 he received the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for the film A Christmas Carol. In 1983, he was honored for Ziggy 's Gift an Emmy. In 1989 he got for Who Framed Roger Rabbit the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, Special Academy Award, the BAFTA Award for Best Visual Effects and a special prize at the Evening Standard British Film Awards, and in 1990 for the same film the Saturn Award for the best special effects.

2001, his book The Animator 's Survival Kit has been released. A filmed in New York at Blue Sky Studios 4-day Master Class was subsequently released on 16 DVDs with over 10 hours of run time.

Private life

Richard Williams has six children from different marriages and lives with Imogen Sutton, his fourth wife, in Bristol.
