Michael Ward (actor)

Michael Ward, George Yeo actually ( born April 9, 1909 in Carnmenellis; † November 8, 1997 in London) was a British actor.

Life

The son of a clergyman from Cornwall received his training at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. In 1945 he was in London Coliseum debut in the West End.

1947 followed Ward's feature film debut. In film and television Ward was set to supporting roles. His large, distinguished and effeminate appearance predestined him for snobs or secretaries, clerks and salesmen, who should either emit a hint of arrogance or a certain dignity. Among his many productions included five films in the carry-on ... film series of Peter Rogers and Gerald Thomas. Often he was cast in comedies of Norman Wisdom and the brothers Roy and John Boulting Boutling. In What the butler saw Ward was even almost a starring role.

On television, the profession of an actor was the comedy. He starred in episodes of Steptoe and Son, Hancock 's Half Hour and The Two Ronnies at the side of Eric Morecambe, Ernie Wise, Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett.

Despite its eye-catching appearance and the campy and effeminate stereotypes that he played mostly succeeded Michael Ward long time to keep his homosexuality secret from the public. His coming out he was late, at its option, when he began to write articles for the Gay News.

After working on the comedy Revenge of the Pink Panther 1978 Michael Ward forced a stroke, largely to end his acting career. After 1986 he could only walk with help.
