Mieczysław Nowak

Mieczysław Nowak ( born December 22, 1936 in Chomęcice, † 17 May, 2006 Nowy Dwór Gdański ) was a Polish weightlifter.

Career

Nowak business as a young man various sports, especially boxing. He was only 1.60 m tall and weighed as an adult only about 60 kg. As a weightlifter, he belonged to the clubs LZS Wolów, Slask Wroclaw and Gdynia floty ( 1955-1972 ). The first systematic training in weightlifting began in Gdansk at coach Aleksander Machowski. Later, in the national team, August Dziedzic and Klemens Roguski were responsible for him. Nowak started at three Olympic Games and won a bronze medal in Tokyo in 1964 at featherweight. He was once the world and three times European Champion in the Olympic triathlon. Unfortunately for him was that in his weight class started in the early years of his international career of the Japanese Yoshinobu Miyake, who was unbeatable at the time. The Polish Championship won Nowak four times, bearing in mind that he in his weight class in Poland had a very strong competition in its time. January Wojnowski, Rudolf Kozlowski, Henryk Trębicki, Kazimierz Czarnecki and Szymon Czyż were all also world-class weightlifter.

After his playing days he became a coach in Gdansk.
